My Story

For someone who writes about other people for a living, my story always seems to be the hardest one to tell. But before we can begin to tell yours, here’s a little bit of mine.

Nikki On The Daily® began as a way to bridge the connection between myself and my audience.

After a lifelong frustration with people unable to pronounce my last name, in 2011, fresh out of college, I decided to brand myself as Nikki On The Daily— ‘Daily’, a nickname I acquired from my youthful admiration of MTV’s Carson Daly. I did this at a time when personal branding was still a novice idea (Instagram debuted only a year earlier). At the time, brands were exclusive to companies— synonymous with icons like Nike, Apple, Ralph Lauren etc.— and not individuals, let alone journalists. Despite the criticism and confusion, I did it anyway. Thanks to the developing social media landscape, and the creation of ‘handles’, soon my last name was dropped. Even those closest to me began to colloquially call me by my (now federally registered) byline/brand— Nikki On The Daily®. Eventually, it caught on.

In a way, you could say I was my first story. I successfully changed the narrative from who I was into who I wanted to become. The backstory is, I grew up writing and was fortunate to discover my passion in life at an early age (first grade, to be exact). I pursued it throughout grade school, received a B.A. in Journalism and Media Studies from Hofstra University, and went on to write for several award-winning publications in the New York region (most notably, in the Hamptons).

I’ve told hundreds, if not thousands, of stories over the course of my nearly decade long career thus far— across print, digital, and in the form of events— driven by passion and purpose, by community and connection.

On a personal level, I’m a third generation New Yorker living in Hoboken, with a terribly good coffee addiction. I’m also an adventure junkie, equal opportunity eater, fitness fanatic, and advocate for animal rights and environmental conservation.
