Long Island is spreading its culinary wings with Huntington’s new go-to dining spot, The Shed Restaurant. Talk a walk down New Street in the village and you’ll find yourself stumbling across Instagrammable street art, opened wings begging for a photograph, as a greeting to the deliciousness of what’s ahead.
The location, that is a reminder of a cozy, country style home, boasts plenty of outdoor space, allowing guests to be both ‘in the shed’ or outside of it, with an outdoor dining area prior to walking through the main doors and an airy deck on the opposite side of the bar. While there is an inside seating area, the bar is the focal point of what’s going on. Red bar stools surround a blue paneled bar with, what appears to be, master mixologists on the other side. Maybe it’s the tattoos, maybe it’s the old-time looking Tanqueray Cocktail Shaker or the bunny wallpaper on the far side, but this was certainly the place to be.
The Shed’s cocktail menu proves to be impressive, reading a Farmers Gin with Tanqueray, Cucumber, Basil, Fresh Lime, Elderflower and Prosecco; Pink Panther of Titos vodka, fresh grapefruit, peach and lemon, St. germaine; The Shed Lemonade with Knob Creek Bourbon, domaine de canton, homemade lemonade; or, my drink of choice, The Watermelon with Tito’s Vodka (in place of patron reposado, since I’m not much of a tequila girl) and watermelon juice.
The Shed has come to be known for its daily brunch with buttermilk pancakes, farmers breakfast, breakfast bowl, Benedicts, frittata’s and more. However, with an extensive menu, that should be shared among friends, there are so many options to make note of.
Burger lovers should order A Heat Burger, adding a real spice to life with avocado, cherry pepper crisps and chipotle sauce. Other options include a lobster roll or grilled cheese with gouda, Swiss, roasted tomato, avocado, onion and jam on a brioche.Classic Shed Plate’s list items such as Chicken & Waffles, Burrata Toast and a Skillet Mac & Cheese with corn, jalapeno, bacon and green onion that isn’t too heavy but sits just right.
If you’re aiming for something on the healthier side try a Beefsteak Tomato salad or, my personal favorite, a Shed Bowl of roasted chicken, wild rice, arugula, radish, sweet potatoes, sunflower seeds, mushrooms, goat cheese and spice honey vinaigrette. But whatever you do, make sure you don’t leave without a side of Shed Fries or Gouda Fries. I felt like being a little extra saucy, so I ordered both!
As the summer comes to a close and the weather becomes tolerable again The Shed is the perfect backyard style hangout to satisfy all of your foodie cravings. Whether you’re in the shed or outside of it, you won’t leave disappointed.
